Vindel River LIFE
The Vindel River LIFE project was a collaboration between Umeå University, the Ume/Vindel River Fishery Advisory Board, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management. The project ran from 2010 until October 2015, and aimed to restore tributaries to the Vindel River that had been negatively affected by timber floating so as to recreate a more diverse aquatic environment favorable to plants and animals.… Read more

The annual Norwegian Restoration Seminar in Oslo
On the 18th November, Johanna presented Vindel River LIFE’s work on a yearly Norwegian seminar in Oslo hosted by the the Norwegian Environment Agency), Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE), and the Norwegian Water Association. This two-day event serves as a forum for networking where restoration knowledge and experience is exchanged.… Read more
Vindel River LIFE concludes with major stream restoration conference
The Vindel River LIFE project has concluded by staging an international conference on stream restoration entitled ‘Reviving waters’. The three-day event, which was held in Lycksele, Sweden from 22-24 September 2014, gathered more than 100 attendees from ten countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Latvia, , Czech Republic, Slovenia, Ireland, England, Scotland, and the US) for some 30 presentations, a poster session and a field trip to project sites.… Read more
Another sign of success
As part of the annual national monitoring of salmon, the County Administration Board of Västerbotten has recently done electro fishing surveys in the Vindel River. To our great joy they have found one-year-old salmon in the lower part of Giertsbäcken, the same tributary that our Finnish friend Jari previously wrote an email about (See here).… Read more
Evidence of success!

Always always comes with compliments about the restoration we have done in a stream they usually visit,but also with curious questions about future restoration work in the stream. SwAM is now a beneficiary of Vindel River LIFE
In the beginning of April the EU decided to include the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management (SwAM) in the Vindel River LIFE Project. We are truly grateful for this decision! Natura 2000 film about us!
The Mostra Communication Agency has been contracted by the European Commission to produce films about Natura 2000 sites. In September they came to Sweden and filmed with us and with Donald Eriksson (Aurora Borealis Adventures) in some tributaries and by the main river. You can see the film here:
Swedish LIFE-meeting in Vindeln
Vindel River LIFE and MOTH arranged a national LIFE meeting on 8-9 October at Forsen Hotel in Vindeln, Västerbotten. A total of 25 project managers and financial managers from 10 different LIFE projects participated. The purpose of these meetings is to share experiences about different economic and organizational issues regarding our projects, and to keep our Swedish LIFE-network alive.… Read more
